Thank you for visiting my all new website, where I share a few of the many photographs I’ve taken over the past 30 years, mostly in my beautiful home state of West Virginia. Photography has been a passion of mine since I got my first pocket 110 camera back in the 1970’s. I used it for a couple years and then started looking at 35mm camera kits in catalogs. I finally saved up enough to buy a Praktica 35mm kit. After shooting a roll of slide film with it, I couldn’t believe how fantastic the pictures looked just through a cheap slide viewer. This only fueled my passion for photography. Although my major was in accounting, I took a couple of photography classes in college for fun. But most of my learning has been through a lot of trial and error, and from my addiction to photography books, magazines, and now all the great photo sites on the web.
Most of the posted images were shot on color slide film, either Kodachrome or Fuji Velvia, and scanned for electronic imaging and digital printing using a dedicated film scanner. Since late 2006, I have been shooting mostly digital, with my new Nikon D80. Now I have begun to build up my digital image files, and it gives me a great excuse to go back and revisit all those places I’ve shot with film over the years.
All of the images, whether shot on film or digital, have been digitally adjusted to achieve optimal brightness, contrast, color, and sharpness. Except for images posted in the “Other/Artistic” gallery, none of the images have been digitally manipulated to significantly change the physical characteristics or integrity of the subject as originally shot (such as removing physical objects from a scene, adding objects that were not present in the original scene, or dramatically exaggerating or changing color). I have noted those images in the other gallery where there have been significant digital manipulations.
